Frequently Asked Questions

Spirits brands tend to lean toward premium, tactile materials that hold up through humidity, condensation, and handling. At Blue Label Packaging, the most common materials we print on for spirits labels are:
- Felt and Estate papers for an uncoated, textured feel that suits whiskey, bourbon, and aged spirits
- Classic Linen and Classic Crest for traditional luxury positioning
- Welded papers when you need a textured look with extra durability for bottles that will sit on ice or in coolers
- BOPP (matte, soft touch, or metallic) when you need full waterproofing without sacrificing the premium feel
If you’re not sure which material fits your bottle and brand, we’ll send you a sample pack so you can feel the difference before you commit. Most distillers know the look they want; the goal of the sample pack is to find the material that matches the look you have in mind.

Distillers ask for premium finishes more than any other category we print for. The most-requested options on spirits labels:
- Hot foil stamping in gold, silver, copper, or custom Pantone metallics
- Blind emboss and deboss for understated luxury without ink
- Soft touch lamination for a velvety, tactile feel
- Spot UV varnish to highlight specific design elements
- Screen-printed inks for opaque whites, metallics, and specialty colors that go beyond CMYK
We’ll often combine three or four of these on one label, especially on whiskey, bourbon, and small-batch releases where the bottle is part of the brand experience. If you have a specific look in mind (matte black with gold foil, for example, or a felt stock with blind emboss), we can mock it up before production so you see exactly how the finishes will sit on your chosen material. Blue Label runs hot foil, emboss, and soft touch in-house, so the finishing decisions that define a premium spirits label happen under one roof rather than across multiple vendors.

We don’t have a minimum. Order 250 labels for a one-off bourbon release, 1,000 for a seasonal gin run, or 10,000 for a flagship vodka. We’ll print them the same way: digitally, with no setup fees, no overage charges, and no long-term contract to lock you in to a volume you don’t yet need.
Most distilleries we work with start with a short test run, see how the label looks in production, then come back for larger orders as they scale. Blue Label is set up to grow with you on volume rather than push you into a minimum that doesn’t fit your stage.

Blue Label prints pressure-sensitive labels for the full range of spirits bottle sizes, from 50ml nips through 1.75L handles. The sizes we print most often:
- 50ml nip (sometimes called airplane bottles or minis)
- 200ml
- 375ml split
- 500ml
- 750ml (the standard spirits format)
- 1L
- 1.75L handle
We also print front-and-back label sets, neck wraps, and hang tags if your bottle calls for them. Tell us your bottle dimensions and we’ll match the label size, shape, and unwind direction to your filling and labeling line.

Yes. Every spirits order goes through a proofing step before we send it to press. We provide digital proofs for layout, copy, and color reference. We can also print a physical proof on your selected material when finish, foil, or texture matters.
Most distillers we work with want to see the actual material in hand before signing off on a foil-and-emboss spirits label, so we make that easy. The goal of the proof is to catch anything that could derail the order or the COLA: a misplaced government warning, color drift on a brand-specific Pantone, foil that lands differently on textured stock than on a flat material. Once you approve the proof, what comes off our HP Indigo press is what you saw and signed off on.

Quotes go out within 24 hours of the request. Production typically runs 5 to 10 business days from proof approval. Foil, emboss, screen print, and soft touch lamination add time over a standard CMYK label.
If you have a hard deadline, a launch event, or a tight TTB-then-fill window, tell us up front. We’ll work with our scheduling team to confirm a rush timeline before you commit. We’ve helped distilleries recover from late vendor changes and emergency reprints more times than we’d like to admit. If you’re in one of those moments, lead with that. The faster we know, the more we can do.

Yes, this is one of the things digital printing is built for. We can run multiple SKUs in a single production run with no plate changes, no setup fees per design, and no minimum quantity per SKU. If you’re releasing four seasonal whiskey expressions or a 12-SKU holiday gift program, we’ll print them on one ticket and ship them stacked in the order you need on the line.
Multi-SKU support also helps when you’re testing a new release. Run 500 of a new gin alongside 5,000 of your flagship bourbon, see how the new release performs, then come back and scale the winners. That kind of flexibility doesn’t exist with traditional flexo printing or with vendors that require contracts and high minimums.
