Spices and Seasoning in Jars

Custom Spice & Seasoning Labels

Custom Spice & Seasoning Labels

We print custom spice labels and seasoning labels for spice, rub, and blend brands, on glass jars, plastic shakers, grinders, and sample pouches. On a shaker, the label has to clear the perforations and handles and still wrap without wrinkling. Grinders bring small diameters and unusual shoulders. We size every label to the container, and for anything oil-based we typically recommend BOPP film with a protective laminate. The labels also hold up near the stove, where steam makes paper labels curl.

We’re a family-owned, independent printer, and we print the scannable UPC most retail buyers expect. There’s no minimum, so you can start small and scale up with the same printer. You’ll have a quote within 24 hours, and most standard labels print within 5 business days of artwork approval. We ship nationwide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. There’s no minimum, so 50 labels for a farmers market table or 100 for your first store account is a normal order for us. You can start that small and keep the same printer as you grow into thousands of jars. Digital printing means no plates to pay for, which keeps small runs practical. You’ll have a quote within 24 hours.

Yes. One design with a different blend name, color, or ingredient list on each version is one of the most common orders we get from seasoning brands. All your blends go on one order, each in the quantity you need. You’ll review a proof before we print, so check every blend name and ingredient list at that stage. A typo is cheapest to fix on the proof.

On a 4 oz spice jar, the label belongs on the straight wall below the shoulder, so measure that section of your own jar rather than going by ounces.

  • Measure the height from just above the base to just below where the glass starts to curve. A label that runs onto the curve will wrinkle.
  • For a wraparound, measure the distance around the jar and take a little off so the ends meet cleanly.
  • On shakers with molded grips, size the label to the flat panel between them.
  • A lid label adds room for your logo on top.

Send us a jar or its dimensions and we’ll recommend a size before you finalize your artwork.

Sometimes. FDA rules exempt foods with insignificant amounts of all nutrients, so a single plain spice may not need a panel. Blends are different. Salt adds sodium and sugar adds carbohydrates, so most rubs and seasoning blends need a panel unless you qualify for a small business exemption. A nutrition claim on the label, like “low sodium,” brings the requirement back. Every spice label also needs the product name, net weight, an ingredient list in order by weight, an allergen statement if one applies, and your business name and address.

We don’t design labels in house, but we can connect you with someone who does. We keep a directory of Blue Label Approved designers we’ve worked with, and they can take you from a logo and a list of blend names to print-ready files. Make sure your finished files include:

  • Blend names and net weights
  • Ingredient lists and any Nutrition Facts panels
  • A barcode, if you’re selling to stores (we print scannable UPCs)

Once your files are ready, we check them against our artwork guidelines before anything prints.

Just about any container a spice or seasoning brand uses:

  • Glass and plastic spice jars, round or square
  • Shakers, including wide-mouth shakers and ones with molded grips
  • Grinders, which have small diameters and tight shoulders
  • Metal tins, on the lid, the sides, or both
  • Stand-up pouches, bags, and sample packets

We size each label to the container, and we can add matching lid labels or wrap-over-the-lid labels. If your container is unusual, send it to us and we’ll work out the label shape.

They will on a film label with a laminate on top. Oil from rubs and blends gets on fingers and then onto the jar, and spice jars get picked up and put back constantly. Over time that wears through unprotected ink and stains paper labels. We usually recommend BOPP film (a water- and oil-resistant plastic film) with a gloss, matte, or soft-touch laminate. Film labels also wipe clean, and they won’t curl from steam when the jars live next to the stove.

Our preferred file formats are Adobe Illustrator or High-Resolution PDF.  You can view our complete artwork file standards checklist here.

Yes. Before we print your spice labels, we email you a digital proof to approve. Check it for spelling, positioning, size, and every required detail, since what you approve is what we print. A screen can’t show exactly how a color or material will look in hand, so if that matters for your launch, you can order a printed proof for an extra fee:

  • Press proof: your design printed on the material you picked, with the laminate or varnish. It isn’t die cut and won’t include foil, embossing, or other embellishments, but the die line is printed on it so you can trim it to size.
  • Sample print: a small production run on your material and finish, die cut and with every embellishment. Because it’s finished like the real thing, it needs the same tooling as your full order.

Our printers are capable of matching up to 97% of the full color spectrum, allowing us to achieve precise color reproduction for your spice labels. We use advanced CMYK printing to produce an extensive gamut of colors. For designs requiring an expanded range, we also print using WOVG ink sets which add white, orange, violet and green.

Our top-of-the-line color management program and processes ensure we hit the correct hues, tints and shades. We color calibrate and profile all of our presses so your unique color palettes and gradations print true to your vision.

We offer shipping through several vendors like UPS, Fedex, and USPS. Ground, Next-Day, 2-Day, 3-Day, and custom freight options.
