What it Takes to Create a Custom Product Label

Whether it be labels for beer, ejuice or salsa, producing a custom product label is a complex process. From file errors to material mistakes to winding the labels the wrong direction, each project requires an extreme attention to detail. Blue Label’s process ensures your satisfaction the first time. We are dedicated to doing the job right, and doing it fast. Here’s a behind the scenes look at the steps required to efficiently produce high quality custom labels.

Request a Sample Pack of Custom Product Labels

If you’re in the beginning stages of the label printing process, hit us up for a sample pack to get a jumpstart. We will hand-pick examples of past work in our sample room based on the vision for your label and send it off within one business day  of the request.

If you have a vision for your label, but are in need of a top-notch creative partner to bring it to life, browse the Designer Directory. It’s our network of label designers from all over the country who we trust will create unique artwork to accompany your product.

Request a Print Job Quote

After receiving your sample pack and you’ve decided on the direction of your product label, reach out to us, and you’ll be put in touch with an account manager on our team. They will be your personal contact to see your custom label project through. Discuss the ins and outs of your project–– from size, to materials to special decorations like hot foil stamping and embossing. Within one business day of your request, you will receive a quote based on the determined specifications.

Artwork & Order Acknowledgement

Once you’ve approved your estimate, it’s time to send your account manager the product’s label artwork. Upon receiving the design and your order specifications (quantity, shipping, etc.), the job has officially begun. Our staff prepares files for printing during the preflighting process, and produces proofs and an Order Acknowledgement for your review. The Order Acknowledgement contains information about the individual versions, pricing and delivery timeframe. It typically takes one business day (though perhaps more depending on the number of products) from the time your order and art files are sent until you receive proofs and an acknowledgment.

Start the Presses

Once the proof is approved, your job is released to press. We stock most common substrates, finishes, and have an expansive die inventory. If we have everything in stock, we guarantee your order ships out in three to five business days after approval. If additional materials need to be ordered (paper, dies, special foils, etc.) your account manager will be in touch throughout the process. Orders with foil stamping, embossing, or on special materials can require a little more time to source the necessary supplies. If that is the case, our Account Managers make sure you know what to expect and keep you updated on the process.

We also offer press proofs, so you can approve your job exactly as it will look during the production run. This option can add a few days (as we are printing on the actual press itself), but lets you see the exact quality and color of your final label. If your product label has special finishing, that could extend the timeline (e.g. embossing, foil stamping).
