Questions About Digital Printing

Obviously there can be a lot of questions about digital printing and we’re committed to providing all of the information we can. Feel free to ask us directly if you are unsure about something or cannot locate your answer below.

[accordion title=”What is your minimum order amount?” id=”minimum-order”]

We do not have a minimum label quantity, but our minimum order amount is $200. How many labels you can get for that amount will vary depending on the design of your label.

[accordion title=”What is the typical turnaround time?” id=”turnaround-time”]

It is three to five working days after receipt of the approved proof and signed purchase order.

If your label requires the purchase of custom dies or a special substrate it can take a little longer, as we are required to wait on the supplier.

[accordion title=”Do you offer graphic design services?” id=”offer-services”]

We keep our focus on providing great printing but have a look at our designer directory for your graphic design needs.

[accordion title=”What type of artwork do I need to supply and how?” id=”artwork-format”]

Our preferred file format is high resolution PDF, EPS or Adobe Illustrator document, with the type converted to outlines and all links embedded. File artboard should be created to exact label size and include appropriate bleeds. If label bleeds, it must extend at least 1/16″ outside the label size.

For more information, view our Artwork File Standards guide.

[accordion title=”How many colors can you print?” id=”how-many-colors”]

We primarily use CMYK, which allows us to use 98% the PANTONE color gamut.

We can add white, orange, violet, and/or green to help boost our color quality even further.

[accordion title=”What is 4-color process of CMYK?” id=”4-color-process-cmyk”]

Four-color process is a conventional method of printing. CMYK stands for cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. Using a combination of these four colors, printers can recreate most colors in the PANTONE gamut.

[accordion title=”Do you color match?” id=”color-match”]

We do our best to match your color swatches if you supply them. We can also provide hard copy proofs right off the press.

[accordion title=”How do I choose a size for my digital label?” id=”choosing-a-size”]

Your size should be determined by your application. If you’re starting from scratch, we recommend cutting pieces of paper and placing them on the product until you find the right size.

[accordion title=”What if I need a custom die?” id=”custom-die”]

Any time we have to order a die it is considered custom. The client is responsible for the one time order charge, but if the die ever needs replaced Blue Label pays for it.

[/accordion]

[accordion title=”What kind of label proof will I get?” id=”label-proof”]

We supply a PDF proof for every job we print. You can also have a ‘live’ or ‘hard copy’ proof straight from the press for a minimal charge.

A proof is a representation of your label. On a PDF proof, you should check that all text, color separations, spacing, and barcodes are current. On a hard copy proof you should check all of the above and color.

[accordion title=”Why don’t you have plate charges?” id=”plate-charges”]

It’s simple, we do not use plates!

Our digital printing technique uses a ‘blanket’ to transfer ink to the label material. The blanket is heated, which melts and blends the ElectroInk particles into a smooth film. This produces an image that is completely defined on the blanket and then transferred to the material by direct contact.

[accordion title=”Can you print multiple versions?” id=”multiple-versions”]

Yes, our digital presses can print multiple versions in the same run. Because each project is unique, versions charges will vary.
